Fire Departments to hold open houses to promote Fire Prevention

By Tara Clow Oct 4, 2024 | 1:01 PM

The public is invited to help celebrate Fire Prevention Week.

Riverview Fire and Rescue will open its doors on Pinewood Road on Saturday, October 5 from 8 am until 2 pm, while the Moncton Fire Department will raise awareness at its Hildegarde station from 10 am until 2 pm.

This year’s theme from October 6 to 12, is ‘Smoke alarms: Make them work for you!’

There will be demonstrations at each fire hall to help keep your household safe.

Ome of the important tips to keep your home safe:

  • Install smoke alarms in every bedroom, outside each sleeping area, and on every level of your home, including the basement.
  • For maximum protection, use interconnected smoke alarms. When one sounds, they all sound, providing an early warning across the entire house.
  • Test your smoke alarms monthly by pressing the test button to ensure they function properly.
  • Replace smoke alarms every 10 years, or sooner if they malfunction. Regularly check the manufacture date to stay on track.
  • Prepare and practice a fire escape plan so everyone knows what to do when the alarm goes off.

The City of Dieppe will hold its open house on October 12 from 10 am until 2 pm at their Gauvin Road station.
