A strong shipping season at the Port of Thunder Bay continues.
Coal, and potash shipment totals for September were up from 2023, while grain was down.
Year to date, the port has been shipping less coal, and potash than last season, but grain, dry bulk, liquid bulk, and general cargo at Keefer Terminal, as well as other general cargo and dry Bulk at Keefer were all up.
According to the port, Keefer has surpassed last year’s record dry bulk volume, with more expected to arrive before the end of the season.
“The latest statistics for September show strong potash and grain shipments and the largest cargo throughput for this month since 2016,” said the Port of Thunder Bay in a release. “September’s monthly and year-to-date potash tallies set standards not seen in the Port of Thunder Bay before.”
Five cruise ships also stopped at the port providing a boost to local tourism.
