An annual drive to provide winter clothing for those in need is back.

Gear Up For Outdoors Winter Coat Drive is now in year 18 of operation.

“This is such an important event for our residents,” explains Shelter House Executive Director, Brendan Carlin. “As we all know, the winters in Thunder Bay can be hard at the best of times.”

“Imagine what it must be like for those who have little access to warm clothing this time of year. We are so grateful that the city supports this initiative so well.”

The drive is accepting new or gently used winter coats, jackets, sleeping bags, and outerwear, which will be given to local charities including Shelter House, Grace Place, and Precious Bundles.

“This drive is about more than just jackets,” said Gear Up For Outdoors President, Jon Wynn. “Every coat represents the warmth of compassion and the belief that no one should be left out in the cold.”

Donations can be dropped off at Gear Up For Outdoors at 894 Alloy Place on the right side of the building as the drive remains “contactless” this year.

Each donation will qualify you for a draw to win one of six gift cards.

The outdoor winter clothing is being accepted until December 20.

Anyone who is interested in making a cash donation can also do so.

A container for Shelter House is set up on Gear Up’s front counter where you can grab a form to fill out to donate.
