In response to the recommendations from the Mass Casualty Commission, 14 organizations will receive funding for grief and emotional wellness.
The announcement from the Nova Scotia Hospice Palliative Care (NSHPCA) says Colchester, East Hants and Cumberland Counties will receive the grants.
Funding from the Public Health Agency of Canada and the provincial government is $300,000.
Organizations can apply for up to $50,000.
“Research is increasingly highlighting the complexity, volume, and lasting effects of grief on an individual’s health, social connections, and economic well-being,” says Tim Guest, Executive Director of NSHPCA.
“There is a strong need in Nova Scotia for more support for those experiencing grief, and we have the opportunity to assist local organizations in the healing process and positively impact their communities.”
The province says the choice was difficult, given the number of applications.
They were for a variety of projects like children’s activities, memorial gardens and emergency training and infrastructure improvements, each tailored to meet the specific needs of the communities they serve.
