Nova Scotia RCMP are warning people about a “unique” type of phone scam.

Police say the victim got a call from someone impersonating a Bell representative who was selling a phone plan.

When they purchased and received the phone, they turned it on and connected to wi-fi.

But then it downloaded their information to scammers.

Police say one way to verify a caller is by hanging up and calling back with a trusted number.

They also say if you did not initiate the call, then you should be suspicious and never give out your personal information.

If you or anyone you know is the victim of a scam, the RCMP asks that you report it to your local police and the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre.
