A public library in Fredericton has suffered extensive damage following a break and enter earlier this week.

Officers were called to the downtown branch around 6:40 a.m. Monday, according to the Fredericton Police Force.

Police said a window had been broken “indicating illegal entry” and there was extensive damage inside the building.

“Due to the extensive damage, the library will remain closed until damage and repairs can be assessed and arranged,” police said in a social media post on Monday.

A spokesperson for the provincial government declined to comment on Tuesday, directing inquiries to the police force due to the active investigation.
