LaHave ferry out of service for next six to eight weeks

The LaHave ferry in Lunenburg County is going out of service today.

Every five years, the ferry must be refitted to renew its safety inspection certificate.

The work should take between six to eight weeks.

A cable ferry is the only boat that can cross the shallow water of the river, so there will be no temporary replacement.

Minister of Public Works Kim Masland says the province tried to work on it when fewer people are using the ferry, according to a news release.

The distance to drive from one dock to the other is 36 kilometres.
