Liberals commit to balanced budgets if elected

The New Brunswick Liberals are promising to deliver balanced budgets every year if elected.

Leader Susan Holt made the commitment Wednesday to a group of business leaders in Saint John.

“A Holt government will deliver balanced budgets every year of its mandate and continue to pay down the provincial debt,” said Holt.

“New Brunswickers have told us they want a government that makes sound financial decisions for today and into the future – we will.”

The Liberal leader said her party would equally weigh the important services people depend on with the province’s growth and financial stability.

RenĂ© Legacy, the Liberal finance critic, said there is an important link between New Brunswick’s economic growth and the well-being of our residents.

“We currently have the second-lowest GDP per capita in North America. We are falling behind in our economy,” said Legacy.

“Managing our budget responsibly doesn’t mean refusing to invest in growth.”

Voters are scheduled to head to the polls on Oct. 21.
