By Kelli Rickard Aug 11, 2024 | 3:07 PM

Crews were called to a fire at a home in Moncton.

Moncton Fire’s Acting Platoon Chief Paul MacFadyen confirms that it happened at about 6 p.m. Saturday in the 100 block of Crandall Street.

The owner of the bungalow was not at home at the time and the occupant of the basement apartment got out safely.

Crews rescued several small pets from the residence, including some guinea pigs, however, one of the three cats did not survive. The animals were transported to the SPCA.

MacFayden says the fire was contained to the kitchen but caused extensive smoke damage.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
