An exciting day for Canada on day 15 at the Paris Olympics that included three more medals, two photo finishes and historic wins.

Phil (Wizard) Kim won the gold medal battle 3-0 in the Olympic debut of breaking. A Vancouver resident, the B-boy had spectators on their feet as he took on France’s Dany Dann in the final on Saturday.

Edmonton’s Marco Arop charged to silver in the men’s 800-metre final. It was a close race – he finished one one-hundredth of a second (0.01) behind winner Emmanuel Wanyonyi of Kenya. Arop ran 1:41.20, taking a North American area record. His previous best time was 1:42.85. Arop is the reigning world champion in the event.

This is Canada’s first medal in the men’s 800m event since 1964.

Canada started the second-last day of competition with its eighth gold medal.

Katie Vincent of Mississauga, Ont. paddled to a photo finish in the women’s canoe 200-metre singles, defeating American Nevin Harrison by just one-one hundredth of a second.

Vincent not only claimed the gold, but the world’s best time of 44.12.

This is the first ever Olympic gold medal for Canada in a women’s canoe or kayak event.

It comes after Vincent’s bronze medal win with Sloan MacKenzie of Windsor Junction, N.S. in the doubles 500-metre final on Friday.

Sophia Jensen of Quebec placed sixth in her Olympic debut.

Michelle Russell of Fall River, N.S. raced in the event but missed the podium. She placed eighth in the A final with a time of 1:53.83. This after coming second in a women’s single 500m semifinal with a time of 1:50.28.

Divers Rylan Wiens and Nathan Zsombor-Murray finished 7th and 10th respectively in the men’s 10m platform. The gold went to China, silver to Japan and bronze to Great Britain.

In artistic swimming, Audrey Lamothe and Jacqueline Simoneau came 9th in the duet free routine. China got the gold.

Team Canada placed 6th in the 4 x 400m relay, with the gold medal going to the U.S.A.

Team Canada has won 27 medals at the games: 9 gold, 7 silver, and 11 bronze.
