The subject of an emergency alert in the Cape Breton Regional Municipality has been charged with arson and weapons offenses.

Cape Breton Regional Police issued the alert early Wednesday morning.

It was reported a 53-year-old man had access to a firearm and had threatened to burn the homes of people he knows.

One residence had been set on fire and destroyed.

Police arrested the man in the Loch Lomond area that morning.

He was remanded and appeared in court Thursday.

The investigation is ongoing.
