UPDATE: House fire, 2 possible fires keep KV fire crews busy

It was a busy Wednesday for Kennebecasis Valley fire crews with a structure fire, two possible fires and a boat rescue.

The first call of the day came in just after 1 a.m. for reports of a home on fire on Sugarmaple Lane in Quispamsis.

Fire Chief Mike Boyle said the fire had already broken through windows and the roof when they arrived.

Firefighters were on the scene for around three hours trying to extinguish the large blaze.

There were reports on social media of explosions and large plumes of smoke from several kilometres away.

At around lunchtime, crews responded to a report of a structure fire at Deluxe French Fries on Clark Road in Rothesay.

Deputy Chief Shawn White said they arrived on the scene to find smoke inside the restaurant.

“We had some work that was being done on the air conditioning units on the back of the building and we believe that was the cause of the smoke,” said White.

At around 5 p.m., a number of firefighters were dispatched to a boat rescue on Wiljac Street in Rothesay.

White said it was reported that a canoe had overturned in a pond and there may be people in it.

“We were able to take a good look at the area fairly quickly and determine that everything was OK. There was no signs of anyone in the water,” he said.

Then at around 7 p.m., crews were called to a report of a fire alarm at a seniors complex on Hovey Road in Quispamsis.

Crews could see smoke when they arrived on the scene so they began to evacuate the building, said White.

“All occupants were able to get out. Crews investigated throughout the building and what they determined was the cause was an issue with a dryer,” he said.

No injuries were reported in any of the incidents, although one person at the seniors complex was looked over for smoke inhalation, said White.
