Crews made quick work of a fire at NB Power’s Bayside Generating Station in Saint John on Friday afternoon.

First responders were called to the power generating station on Bayside Drive around 3:30 p.m.

Flames and thick black smoke could be seen coming from the roof of the east side building.

The Saint John Fire Department and Irving Oil Fire Response Team responded to the scene.

A ladder truck poured water onto the roof and the fire appeared to be out shortly after 4 p.m.

A spokesperson for NB Power said the fire broke out on the roof of the generating station.

Clayton Beaton said all staff were safely evacuated from the plant and no one was hurt.

“Thank you to the first responders, including the Saint John Fire Department, and the Irving Paper employees who quickly alerted the fire department of the issue,” the Crown corporation said in a post on social media.

No word yet on what caused the fire. Our newsroom has reached out to the Saint John Fire Department for comment.
