Session coming up in Digby on electric fishing vessels

By Kevin Northup Jul 26, 2024 | 1:16 PM

Electric fishing vessels and infrastructure will be discussed in Digby.

IGNITE Atlantic will host the event from 9 a.m. to noon Monday at the Fundy Restaurant.

It will bring fishers and industry leaders together for meaningful conversations.

IGNITE CEO Doug Jones says it’s about shining a light on where the industry is going.

“I’m not saying we’re looking at going electric in full, but I think there will be early adopters that will look at electric as at least a component of what they do to help reduce fuel costs and our carbon footprints,” said Jones.

An electric fishing vessel will be docked at the wharf for attendees to check out.

Jones says they need to understand the current demands on grid infrastructure.

“So that we can better inform the province, Nova Scotia Power and other stakeholders on what needs to be done to support this.”

It’s free to register on IGNITE’s website, but spaces are limited.
