The Second Spin bicycle program is a new way to recycle unwanted or outgrown children’s bicycles.
It was created by Thunder Bay’s Solid Waste & Recycling Facility to reduce waste and offer free bikes to kids who can use them.
When a child’s bike arrives at the landfill, it is visually inspected for functionality and working condition.
Residents can fill out a request form to pair a bicycle with their child, then make an appointment for pick up.
The city’s website provides pictures of the available bikes and what age group they are sized for. They currently have nearly 40 children’s bikes up for grabs.
