They won’t be available for the current heatwave but they’ll open soon enough.

Patrons will splish and splash at Centennial and East end pools starting Saturday, June 22 at 11 am.

YMCA Senior Director of Aquatics Joey Doucet says several programs are being offered this summer.

“No major changes from last year. We are still offering our public swim from 11 to 7 each day, and our lap swims at 7 am on certain days, depending on which pool. We have a new Aquafit class at the East end pool on Tuesdays at 9:30, so that is a new program change. As well on Thursday, we are going to have a new Parent and Tot swim at 9:30 at the East end pool.”

It’s expected to be a very busy summer, and Doucet has these recommendations for visitors.

“Bring an umbrella or a small tent, hat, lots of sunblock as well,” Doucet says.

They will be fully staffed with around 30 Lifeguards between the two pools. Centennial will have nine or ten on duty at one time, plus two Supervisors. At East end, between four and five Lifeguards at one time and one Supervisor.

“We always recommend you take a look at our Admissions policy and standards for anyone coming in with young children. We do ask anyone under 12 to do a swim test. This way we have an idea of the swimmers’ ability. They will get a green bracelet to show they passed. For extra safety, the Lifeguards are there but it is also the responsibility of the parents to keep an eye on their children at all times.”

The pools will be open until August 31.

This is the second year YMCA Moncton has operated the two outdoor facilities. The pools remain cashless, but a season pass or punch pass can be purchased.

There are two ways to pay your entry fee or purchase a pool pass this summer:

• At the pools using debit or credit
• With cash, credit, or debit at either YMCA location in Moncton (70 Twin Oaks Dr. and 30 War Veterans Ave.)

Centennial Park Pool and East End Pool will be open daily from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
