There’s an investigation underway into the death of a 38-year-old woman on the Whitesand First Nation.

Police and paramedics were called to a home in the community on Saturday night.

The initial call was in relation to a woman in distress but any other circumstances around her death are not known.

She has been identified as Stacey Shapwaykeesic.

An autopsy will take place this week in Toronto but police do not believe residents need to be worried about a greater threat in the community.

The Whitesand First Nation is more than 200 kilometres outside of Thunder Bay.
