Halifax MP leaving federal politics, mayoral run could be next

By News Jun 17, 2024 | 4:45 PM

The MP for Halifax is stepping away from federal politics but might have his eye on another job.

Andy Fillmore broke the news in Ottawa as rumours swirl he is set to run for mayor.

Fillmore has held the riding since 2015 and worked with the city prior to being elected.

He has yet to make his mayoral run official, but previously stated he was thinking about it.

Current councillors Pam Lovelace and Waye Mason are already running for mayor, joining three other newcomers in the race.

The seat will be open after Mike Savage announced in February he would not re-offer.
