Hundreds will gather on the Moncton riverfront on Father’s Day in running shoes and t-shirts, to honour three fallen RCMP officers.
They’ll take part in the Three Fathers Memorial Run.
It pays tribute to Constables Dave Ross, Fabrice Gevauden and Doug Larche who were tragically killed in Moncton on June 4, 2014.
Spokesperson Gino Legacy says it’s the 11th annual. It gets underway at 8:30 Sunday morning at Bore Park, “We have a three-kilometre, five-kilometre and ten kilometre. We call it a walk or a run. It’s all about getting people together.”
Registration to participate in the event has now closed but donations are still being accepted.
The event also raises funds for 18 scholarships each year for graduating students from six area high schools. Since 2014, around $135,000 has been handed out in the form of student bursaries.
Legacy adds it takes participants and volunteers to help make this event a success, “For me personally, this is a Father’s Day tradition for us. My family goes out and enjoys the event and now I help and volunteer.”
The finish line is at the Honour Garden (RCMP Memorial).
