Proposed 6-storey apartments in Riverview pass first reading

By Tara Clow Jun 12, 2024 | 12:54 PM

A land rezoning to mixed-use on Cleveland Avenue in Riverview has passed the first reading.

A public hearing for the five-acre piece of land was held on Tuesday night before town council.

Planner Kirk Brewer says this will make way for two six-storey residential buildings.

“The final height has yet to be decided. It is likely going to be around 20 to 20 1/2 metres. So staff is recommending council grant the variance to up to 21 metres, but still limited to six stories,” says Brewer.

The buildings will include 404 units, mostly one-bedroom. The project will also include 231 surface parking spots and 224 underground spots.

Brewer adds this area was idle for several years but is now seeing renewed interest with increased business construction, including the Kent Building Centre.

A traffic impact study was requested, but Brewer says the final report has not come back as of yet.

“Something that we are monitoring as development continues, is what kind of interventions may be required for the future of those intersections, whether it be traffic lights or roundabouts,” he says.

There were no written submissions of concern, support, or comments from the gallery at the public hearing.

The second and third readings are expected in July.
