By CJ Goater Jun 10, 2024 | 1:29 PM

Thunder Bay Fire Rescue has a new Fire Chief.

David Paxton is assuming the role.

Paxton has been the Acting Fire Chief since February following the retirement of his predecessor Greg Hankkio.

The new chief has been a part of fire rescue since 1998, starting his career as a 1st Class Professional Firefighter before being promoted to the role of Deputy Fire Chief in 2012.

“David Paxton brings a wealth of experience in fire rescue services and emergency management,” said City Manager Norm Gale. “His proven leadership and steadfast commitment to enhancing public safety make him the ideal leader for our fire and rescue services. Under Chief Paxton’s leadership, Thunder Bay Fire Rescue will continue to excel and provide vital services to the community.”

Paxton’s new role will have him overseeing 203 firefighters and eight fire stations.
