Eighty-five golfers played in the RCAF 100th Anniversary Golf Tournament hosted at Osprey Ridge Golf Course just outside of Bridgewater on Friday.

It was one of many events taking place around the country as part of the RCAF centennial.

Osprey Ridge Co-Owner Bill Sampson says it was an honour to be asked to host the tournament.

“The golfers just set out for what we are hoping will be a tremendous day and we have a flyover scheduled in few minutes,” said Sampson when we interviewed him Friday morning.

The flyover did take place and served as the ceremonial tee-off horn, however, the Hercules CH-130 could only be heard and not seen due to heavy fog in the morning.

Also kicking off the event were local politicians who provided remarks including Education Minister Becky Druhan and Lunenburg MLA Susan Corkum-Greek.

Sampson says although Osprey hosts many tournaments throughout the year doing one to honour the Air Force was particularly special.

“We’re excited to have these men and women here for all they do for us,” Sampson said. “The community is too because when we reached out to set up prizes for each of the holes they just kept flooding in from around the community, so for that I thank them.”
