A woman from Berwick is facing impaired driving charges stemming from a fatal collision that took place on the Ridge Road near Wolfville.

The two-vehicle collision occurred around 2:30 p.m. on June 5, when RCMP say a Hyundai Santa Fe failed to negotiate a curve, left the roadway, and struck a woman and a Toyota Corolla located off the roadway.

The woman struck was standing next to the Corolla. She has since been identified as an 87-year-old Berwick woman and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Corolla only suffered minor injuries.

The driver of the Santa Fe, identified as a 37-year-old woman, was exhibiting signs of impairment according to the RCMP.

She was arrested and transported to the Kings District East RCMP Detachment in New Minas where she was tested for impairment.

RCMP have charged her with  Operation while Impaired Causing Death. She was held in custody and will be appearing in Kentville Provincial Court on June 6.

A child was also in the Santa Fe and was transported to hospital by EHS for observation.

Ridge Road was closed for several hours for clean up and to conduct the investigation but has since reopened.
