Wedgeport Legion to hold D-Day ceremony

By Kevin Northup Jun 5, 2024 | 3:41 PM

The Wedgeport Legion will hold a D-Day service.

It’s happening Thursday at 11 a.m. at the legion.

Organizer Andre Boudreau says they’re hoping for a big turnout.

“We’ll talk about the events of D-Day, and we’ll have guest speakers like our MLA Colton LeBlanc and Warden Danny Muise to commemorate the 80th anniversary,” said Boudreau.

He says it’s important to keep the memory of D-Day alive as we lose more and more World War II veterans.

“We’ve got no veterans from D-Day ourselves. It was important, it was the beginning of the end of the war. We don’t want to repeat history.”

A small lunch will be served after the service.

The D-Day landings were in Normandy, France on June 6, 1944.

That’s when Canadian soldiers and other allies began to liberate Western Europe.
