A legendary Canadian singer was honoured Tuesday, through a sizeable donation to the Cape Breton Regional Hospital Foundation’s, Cancer Care Here at Home campaign.

In a tribute to the late Bruce Guthro, Casino Nova Scotia donated a ‘heartfelt’, $10,000.

They say the singer/songwriter was known for his immense talent and unwavering support for his community, but also a passionate advocate for cancer care, here at home.

General Manager of Casino Nova Scotia, Chris Roberts says, Bruce Guthro was not only a talented musician, but also a cherished member of our community whose love for Cape Breton left an ‘indelible mark’ on all who knew him.

“We are honoured to contribute to the Cancer Care Here at Home campaign, a cause that was close to Bruce’s heart, and ours. We recognize the importance of accessible and high-quality healthcare for all members of our community, and we hope this donation will help continue his legacy of compassion and generosity.”

The Casino says Bruce’s advocacy inspired countless individuals to rally behind the campaign, making a meaningful impact on cancer care in the region.

The donation will contribute to the Cancer Care Here at Home campaign in support of transforming the future of cancer care in Cape Breton including:

● A new state-of-the-art Cancer Centre with enhanced facilities to create a more comfortable and healing environment for patients.
● Upgrading medical equipment to ensure the highest standards of patient care.
● Advancing patient care programs to ensure access to holistic complementary therapies that improve patient outcomes.

The presentation was held at the hospital where a large cheque was handed over.

Among those in attendance were members of Bruce Guthro’s family including:

Kim Guthro, wife of the late Bruce Guthro, Linda McGean, sister of the late Bruce Guthro, Michael Gouthro, brother of the late Bruce Guthro, Ron Blinkhorn, Director of Operations, Casino Nova Scotia Sydney, April Pero, Marketing Manager, Casino Nova Scotia Sydney, Paula MacNeil, Cape Breton Regional Hospital Foundation CEO and Caitlyn MacDonald, Manager of Philanthropy

The goal of the campaign is to enhance cancer care services and facilities at the hospital.
