A police officer in Thunder Bay is facing an assault charge after an alleged incident at the detachment.

The charge was laid after an investigation by the agency tasked with looking into serious incidents involving police (Special Investigations Unit or SIU).

A 33-year-old man was arrested for public intoxication in April of last year and later taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

Constable Taylor Auger is charged with assault causing bodily harm and due in court on July 2 for his first appearance.

The Thunder Bay Police Service has placed the officer on admin duties while the court process is underway.
