Peace officers to be honoured at memorial

By Regis Phillips May 31, 2024 | 2:23 PM

A memorial service will be held Sunday to remember peace officers from across New Brunswick who have died in the line of duty.

The Peace Officers’ Memorial Service will be held at 10 a.m. at the memorial monument on the Green behind the Victoria Health Centre in  Fredericton.

“The province has not been immune to these terrible tragedies in recent years. The loss of peace officers is painful for us to remember. This is an opportunity to show our gratitude for the sacrifice and service made to keep our communities safe,” said Public Safety Minister Kris Austin.

This is the first in-person ceremony since 2019. A scaled-down event was held in 2021 during the pandemic, and last year’s ceremony was cancelled due to the threat of inclement weather.

Government officials said a reception will be at Government House following the ceremony.

People are encouraged to visit the New Brunswick Peace Officers’ Memorial website to learn more about those featured on the memorial.

The memorial service will be broadcast on Facebook shortly afterwards for those unable to attend.
