Man allegedly hit three people after stealing vehicle: RCMP

A 21-year-old man faces multiple charges after allegedly hitting three people with a stolen car.

RCMP say they responded to a report of a car hitting pedestrians just before 3 a.m. Thursday on Windgate Drive in Beaver Bank.

Police say people were gathering at a home near the 900 block when multiple people who knew each other started arguing, according to a news release.

A man tried to steal a car and then managed to steal a Mazda CX-5, and then the fight got physical, police say.

While trying drive away, RCMP say the man hit three people with the car.

Two men, aged 23 and 32, from Beaver Bank and Nova Scotia respectively, along with a a 51-year-old Beaver Bank woman, suffered serious injuries and were taken to a hospital.

Later the same morning, Cape Breton police found the Mazda and the man in Sydney.

The 21-year-old man, from Middle Sackville, faces charges for:

  • two counts of assault
  • three counts of assault with a weapon
  • uttering threats
  • two counts of motor vehicle theft
  • driving causing bodily harm
  • failing to comply with a probation order
  • three counts of failing to comply with a court order

The man was held in custody and appeared in Dartmouth Provincial Court Friday.
