N.S. changes qualifying criteria for childcare subsidy

By Kevin Northup May 29, 2024 | 11:41 AM

Criteria for the province’s childcare subsidy is changing.

It’s now going to be based on family income only, and won’t factor in savings or other assets.

Households with an annual income of less than $70,000 are eligible for the subsidy, which pays for some child-care expenses.

Education Minister Becky Druhan says the change will make it easier for families to qualify, and be able to save for things like a down payment on a home.

The province is now only doing online applications, they say that will make for faster processing times.

The current program supports over 4,000 families.
