Two members of the Rainy River District Paramedic Service have received provincial bravery awards for their involvement in a house fire in Atikokan.

Syed Ali and Raphael Desautels were presented with provincial Paramedic Bravery Awards during a ceremony Monday night in Toronto.

Ali and Desautels were called to the home in March 2023.

When they arrived, they entered the burning home to find a person lying on the floor.

The two paramedics took turns going inside, overcoming thick black smoke and flames to rescue the person and provide medical care.

The pair were presented their awards by Lieutenant Governor Edith Dumont and Deputy Premier and Minister of Health Sylvia Jones.
