City seeking design plans for new building on Harbourfront

By Tim Davidson May 27, 2024 | 9:25 AM

The City of Kenora is looking at replacing the Thistle Pavilion.

Director of Economic Development and Tourism Stace Gander says they just want to get plans ready in case there is funding available.

“There are a whole bunch of things now that are very, very different today that they were in the mid-80’s,” Gander told city council recently.

“Through engagement and working through architects that would be successful in the RFP (Request for Proposals) process, we would create a list of wish items we would like to have in the building in the future.”

Gander adds that even though the building is not that old, it’s outlived it’s usefulness.

“Things are very different these days.  The whole idea is to have a project that’s ready on the shelf, so in the event that funding comes available we will have a project we can apply for funding for the construction of a new building.”

Gander says the new building would have space for storage for special events, as well as washrooms.
