More paving for Inverness County

By Kelli Rickard May 27, 2024 | 9:09 AM

Some long-awaited road work is slated to begin in Inverness County.

According to a government release, a 6.3 kilometre section of the Marble Mountain Road near Orangedale will be tendered to be repaved this construction season.

Paving will begin near Orangedale and proceed towards Valley Mills.

This work is in addition to the 8km paving project begun last year on the Marble Mountain Road.

MLA Allan MacMaster says “People who regularly use this road have been very patient waiting for these improvements. This work will make a real difference for them.”

Meanwhile, a 3.5 km stretch will be repaired on Broad Marsh Cove Rd, as well as 2 km on Gillis Rd.

It includes brush cutting, ditching and a new gravel road base.

“Some refer to this coastal road as the “mini-Cabot Trail,” says MacMaster, “And the Gillis Road provides a connection back to the main highway.”

Since the fall of 2021, the province has more than doubled the amount of money spent on locally paved roads, nearly tripling the amount spent on gravel roads and even more on maintenance.
