Water levels increasing

By Randy Thoms May 24, 2024 | 2:35 PM

Flows have been increased from Rainy and Namakan Lakes.

The International Rainy-Lake of the Woods Watershed Board’s Water Levels Committee issued the directive in response to the recent rain storm.

Logs were pulled from dams at Squirrel Falls and Kettle Falls on Tuesday.

Gates at the Rainy Lake dam were opened on Wednesday.

About 50 millimetres of rain was recorded in the International Falls and Fort Frances area earlier this week.

There were higher amounts in other areas around the basin.

The water levels on both Namakan and Rainy Lake have since exceeded the high-level marks of their respective rule curves.

The Water Levels Committee says it will continue to monitor conditions and provide additional updates as conditions develop.
