Greater Moncton has taken the designation of being one of the fastest-growing areas in Canada.

That is according to new population estimates released by Statistics Canada this week.

As of July 1, 2023, the population of the Moncton census metropolitan area stood at 178,971.

That was an increase of 10,000 people, or around six per cent, compared to a year earlier.

The city of Moncton grew by 6,000 residents to 91,085 while Dieppe added more than 1,800 and now stands at 32,177.

In the town of Riverview, the population expanded by more than 400 people to an estimated 21,712 residents.

Meanwhile, the province’s total population grew from 809,568 to 834,691, an increase of around three per cent.
