The skate park at the Moncrief Construction Sports Center will be undergoing a makeover.

Manager of Community Services Andrew Smith says they are applying to the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund to paint murals at the skate park.

“We see through studies that a location that has a mural or some sort of art, provides ownership and there’s a 90 percent reduction in the graffiti that happens in those locations,” Smith told council recently.

Smith adds they would also like to fix up the tile wall near the skate park.

“(The) tile wall is currently falling apart.  We want to redo the exact same concept except people will be able to fill out little tiles and we’ll put them on the wall, charge free with the NOHFC funding.”

Smith says they also plan to increase lighting in the area so kids can skate longer in the evening and use the basketball court.
