Women’s basketball continues to grow in Atlantic Canada.

Season three of the Maritime Women’s Basketball Association tipped off a few weeks ago.

League commissioner Jen McKenzie says there are great rivalries.

“Fredericton, Moncton, Saint John and Miramichi are having great games. The fans there have been amazing. We’re also having great rivalries with our Halifax area teams,” said McKenzie.

When asked about Toronto getting a WNBA team, McKenzie says it gives more athletes a chance.

She encourages families to come watch the games, which feature a lot of former U SPORTS and high-level players.

“We have our own superstars who have played four or five years of U SPORTS. Our own Caitlin Clarks’ who are stars here in the MWBA. I think if people come out, they’ll be surprised to see who’s on the roster.”

There are seven teams in the league.
