A 30-year-old Freeport woman faces charges for allegedly injuring and neglecting two dogs after they died.

The Nova Scotia SPCA investigated a complaint about two dogs in distress at a home in Freeport in March, according to a news release.

After the investigation, the woman was charged with:

  • two counts of injuring or killing a dog
  • two counts of abandoning a dog in distress

She appeared in court Tuesday morning.

The Nova Scotia SPCA Enforcement Department employs special constables under the Police Act of Nova Scotia. They investigate and can lay charges against people suspected of animal cruelty and neglect.
