What’s open and closed on Victoria Day in HRM

It’s the Victoria Day long weekend and Monday, May 20th is a statutory holiday.

Here’s a rundown of what is opened and what is closed:

  • Most major grocery stores, pharmacies and shopping malls will be open.
  • NSLCs will be open.
  • Halifax Transit buses and the Alderney ferry will run on a holiday schedule; the Woodside ferry will not be operating.
  • Paid on-street parking will be free Monday in the Halifax Regional Municipality.
  • All services of Halifax Public Libraries will be closed.
  • Canada Post will not be delivering mail on Monday.
  • There will be no waste collection in the HRM on Monday.
  • The Otter Lake Waste Management Facility will be closed Monday.
  • The 311 Contact Centre will be closed on Monday for full service, but urgent calls can still be reported. Regular operating hours will resume on Tuesday.
  • In-person Customer Service Centres will be closed on Monday and will reopen Tuesday.
  • Many recreation facilities will be closed on Monday. Call ahead to your respective facility for operating hours and program information. Contact information for municipally operated facilities can be found here.
