There is now a vacant seat on Fort Frances council.

The town clerk’s office says David Kircher officially submitted his resignation on Tuesday.

It follows the release of an Integrity Commissioner’s report that identified Kircher made several violations of the council code of conduct.

The process of finding his replacement will begin on May 27th.

That is when council is expected to declare the seat vacant through a resolution.

They will also learn more about how to fill the vacancy.

Options open to them include appointing someone or holding a by-election.

The only by-election in town history occurred in 2008.

The last time an appointment was required to fill a council vacancy was in 2013.
