A burn ban remains in place across New Brunswick for a second straight day.

Officials said no burning will be permitted until at least 2 p.m. on Wednesday.

The ban, issued by the Department of Natural Resources, first went into effect on Monday.

The fire danger was listed as high or very high across much of the province as of early Tuesday afternoon.

New Brunswick is dealing with an above-normal forest fire season so far this year.

A total of 159 fires have burned 166 hectares of forested area as of Tuesday.

That is compared to the 10-year average of 102 fires and 134 hectares burned.
