Former nurse ordered to pay $130,000

A civil case against a former Fort Frances nurse has concluded.

Lindsay Coyle is being ordered to pay $130,000 to the estate and surviving family members of Hermina Fletcher.

Coyle was sentenced to two years in jail earlier this year after pleading guilty to criminal negligence causing death for her role in Fletcher’s death at LaVerendrye Hospital in 2015.

Fletcher’s medical records were altered, leading to her receiving a higher dose of morphine than prescribed.

Coyle admitted in court to changing the records to steal medication for her personal use.

Lawyers for the Fletcher family filed claims in 2021 against Coyle and Riverside Health Care, initially seeking $3 million in damages.

According to court documents, a claim against Riverside was previously settled and “action against the hospital was dismissed.”

Court documents also reveal that Coyle was seeking parole after serving three months.
