The Municipality of the County of Richmond will be installing new sidewalks and some accessibility upgrades at public sites around Arichat.

The sidewalk project in Arichat will make it easier for people to access the municipal administration building, as well as École Beau-Port, which is located behind the building.

The sidewalks being added at the school will provide a safe route along Highway 206, which is commonly walked on by students heading to class.

“Everyone in the province needs safe, convenient access to the municipal services they rely on,” said Trevor Boudreau, MLA for Richmond County. “Improving accessibility helps build the kind of strong communities where we all want to live,”

The accessibility upgrades will also be taking place at the municipal administration building, as well as at the Petit-de-Grat Public Library and the scale house at the waste management transfer station in West Arichat.

Municipal Warden Amanda Mombourquette says the accessibility upgrades vary site by site but include things like improved handrails, accessible parking and automatic doors.

She also said the municipal building will be getting new audio equipment to help the hearing impaired listen to council meetings.

Mombourquette wasn’t willing to provide a timeframe on when the work would be completed, however, she did indicate they hope to have the sidewalks done in time for school in the Fall.
