Just after 3 p.m., Antigonish RCMP and emergency crews responded to a head-on collision near the 400 block of Highway 7, according to a news release.

A Toyota Rav4, travelling north, and a white GMC Terrain, travelling south, collided.

Police say a 70-year-old woman from Bickerton West, the passenger in the GMC, died at the scene. The driver of the vehicle, a 70-year-old Bickerton West man, was airlifted to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

There were five people from Antigonish in the Toyota, a 31-year-old man, a 25-year-old man, a 30-year-old woman, and two children, according to police. They suffered serious injuries and were taken to hospital.

A collision reconstructionist attended the scene of the crash.
