New detours are coming to multiple Thunder Bay Transit bus routes to avoid road and sewer work in the downtown north core.

Starting on Monday routes 1, 2, 3M, 11, and 13 will be detoured due to the upcoming closure of the Red River Road and Cumberland Street intersection for construction.

The intersection is expected to re-open later this summer, and the city plans to provide further updates when the time comes.

The construction work is part of the City’s Reimagining North Core Streetscapes project.

Some of the work being done includes rebuilding streets and sidewalks and expanding patio and vendor space.

Aging underground infrastructure like watermains and sanitary sewers will also be replaced.
