Premier criticizes planned N.S. Power rate hike

By Kevin Northup May 3, 2024 | 11:44 AM

Premier Tim Houston is not happy with Nova Scotia Power.

Reports say the utility is seeking $22 million from ratepayers for last year’s storm damage.

That would be an average of 1.3 percent added to your power bill for one year, starting in January.

Houston was blunt about his stance on the issue.

“I wish Nova Scotia Power would have more empathy towards Nova Scotians. Let’s just say I’m not impressed with them seeking that money,” said the Premier after cabinet meetings.

He says the government may try to intervene, and they want to protect ratepayers.

“We need to take whatever steps we can to protect Nova Scotians, and that would be an example.”

Houston added that NS Power should make investments to make sure people have reliable power.
