A Lunenburg man is facing multiple charges after fleeing from police in a stolen vehicle.

Lunenburg County RCMP spotted a black Volkswagon that was reported stolen last Tuesday on Highway 325 near Blockhouse. When they attempted to approach the vehicle it sped off and police decided not to pursue over safety concerns.

It was then spotted again on Wednesday in Bridgewater on Wednesday. When local police approached, the vehicle once again sped off with police deciding not to pursue it.

Later that day the vehicle was spotted by a police helicopter abandoned in a remote area near Walden.

Police located the vehicle shortly after, which enabled them to determine who the driver and passenger were.

The driver was identified as 45 -a year-old Lunenburg man who now faces multiple charges including:

  • Theft (four counts)
  • Assault
  • Dangerous Operation (two counts)
  • Flight from Peace Officer (two counts)
  • Failure to Stop After Accident

The passenger, identified as 35 year-old Italy Cross woman was arrested over an outstanding warrant but was subsequently released.
