After 36 years with the Thunder Bay Catholic District School Board, Pino Tassone the board’s director of education has announced his retirement.

“Throughout my career, I have witnessed miracles. Whether it be watching a nonverbal student with special needs communicate utilizing technology, a victory achieved that at one time would have never been possible, or witnessing a child grasp the concept of reading and deciphering words on their own, these are moments of pure awe and wonder,” said Pino Tassone.

Tassone started his time with the board at Sacred Heart School teaching grades 7, and 8 before stopping at St Ignatius as Vice Principal and Principal, and Corpus Christi School also as principal.

He then spent two years serving as the superintendent of education for grades 7-12 for the board, before transitioning to his role as the Director of Education, a position he has held for over a decade.

During his time as director of education, the TBCDSB ranked number one in Northwestern Ontario for the past 12 years in EQAO Results – grades 3, 6, 9 10 (Math and Literacy).

Outside of academics, Tassone led the St. Ignatius boy’s soccer teams to 16 City Championships and four Gold provincial Championships while also being the recipient of the OFSAA Leadership Award.
