Nova Scotia Health says there were many inaccuracies in a social media post about flesh-eating disease that caused unnecessary public concern.
In an email, the health authority says the online claims were made in a Yarmouth community Facebook group.
Necrotizing fasciitis, the so-called flesh-eating disease, can be caused by various bacteria, including an invasive group A streptococcal infection.
Public Health has completed an investigation into one severe case of iGAS in the Western Zone involving the complication.
However, they confirm there is no outbreak of necrotizing fasciitis or of iGAS anywhere in the province.
