Southwest Storm ready to defend Maritime championship

The Southwest Storm are looking to add another trophy to the case.

They’re heading to Miramichi for the Maritime Junior C Hockey Championship.

The Storm won the tournament last year, and are the three-time defending Nova Scotia champs.

Head Coach Andrew Holland says the players are ready to go for Wednesday’s opener.

“The boys are looking forward to it. Some of them are in their overage year, so this will be their last kick at the can for junior hockey. They’re excited to be able to wrap it up at Maritimes,” said Holland.

He adds the competition will be tough, as New Brunswick’s teams are always strong, and PEI’s representative will be formidable.

He says the fan support and sponsors have been outstanding all season.

Holland says that success has helped them put in a bid to host next year’s Maritime championship.
