Shediac starts 2024 with nearly $25M in building permits

It has been an excellent start to the year for development in the town of Shediac.

Officials reported nearly $25 million worth of building permits during the first quarter.

“It is essential that the Town of Shediac maintain a good pace in its development while ensuring a good balance of all aspects such as the environment and the economy,” Mayor Roger Caissie said in a news release.

A total of 17 residential building permits worth nearly $1.4 million were granted during the first three months of the year.

On the multi-residential front, the town issued seven permits worth almost $5 million, according to the release.

However, it was the granting of an industrial sector permit worth over $17 million that has given Shediac such an excellent start.

The permit is for a new 139,000-square-foot cold storage facility in the Scoudouc Industrial Park.

“With projects like the cold-storage warehouse in the Scoudouc Industrial Park, and with the growth in population and in the value of permits issued over the past four years, Shediac is increasingly on the radar of investors,” said Economic Development and Tourism Director Danny Pellerin.

Building permits in Shediac reached a record $105 million in 2023. It was the first time that the municipality eclipsed the $100 million mark.
